Door hardware

Start with the door you have. Upgrade one door at a time.

QR Gate works with any keypad from day one — no purchase, no installer. When a door needs to open on its own, add smart hardware. Every option falls back to your keypad code if anything goes wrong.

Visitor
Verifies their phone and the door opens on its own — or they get a code that works for 30 minutes and then expires.

Safety first

Getting in is ours. Getting out never is.

Fail-secure only

Power loss keeps the outside locked. The inside handle or push bar always opens.

No magnetic locks

Maglocks trap people when they fail. We don't sell them or recommend them.

Keypad fallback

If a remote unlock doesn't go through, the visitor gets your keypad code instead.

Questions

Straight answers

Do I need to buy anything to start?

No. If your door has a keypad, QR Gate works with it today: visitors verify their phone and receive the code. Smart hardware is an upgrade you can add later, one door at a time.

Can anyone get locked inside?

No. Our door kit uses a fail-secure electric strike — it only controls the outside. Leaving is always mechanical: the inside handle or push bar works with the kit unpowered and unplugged. We never use magnetic locks, which hold a door shut until power is cut.

What happens if the internet or QR Gate goes down?

Keys and keypads keep working — QR Gate hands out access, it doesn't sit inside your lock. And if a remote unlock fails for any reason, the visitor automatically gets your keypad code instead.

Which smart locks work right now?

Anything you can control from Home Assistant or ESPHome, through a signed webhook. Native TTLock support and our own door kit are next; Wi-Fi Yale, August and Schlage follow.

Why not support every smart-lock brand today?

Many popular Wi-Fi locks have no public API for businesses. We only connect through official, commercially permitted integrations — never unofficial workarounds that can break overnight and leave your door stuck.

My lock isn't listed. What should I do?

Use the keypad option today, and email support@qrgate.app with the make and model. Native integrations get built in the order customers ask for them.
